Abstract: An O-specific polysaccharide has been isolated on mild acid hydrolysis of lipopoly-saccharide from Yersinia pseudotuberculosis serovar IIc and shown to consist of abequose, D-mannose and 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose residues in the ratio 0.8:3:1. From the results of acid hydrolysis, 13C NMR, methylation and periodate oxidation studies the structure of the repeating unit of the O-specific polysaccharide is deduced as follows:

        α-Abep1

              6
      →3)-α—Manp-(1→2)-α-D-Manp-(1→2)-β-D-Manp-(1→3)-α-D-GalpNac-(1→
